I am running for Councillor in Yarraman Ward to ‘Put Our Community First’. Usingmy skills and experience as an entrepreneur, community mobiliser and a committed local volunteer to serve our community as your Councillor,I will provide our residents with leadership for more Council responsiveness, transparency, and accountability.

The City of Greater Dandenong is the most multicultural municipality, and,as a migrant who has resided in Noble Park and Dandenong for over 26 years,I have a deep love and appreciation for Australia, and what it has given my family.

Having arrived in Australia in the early 1990’s and navigated through primary, secondary and tertiary education,I can empathise with newly arrived Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD), especially those in our ward, who experience challenges and barriers in our education system and employment processes.

With CALD community in mind,I founded and am Director of Victorian Youth Support Services Association (VYSSA),an outreach mentoring and support focused youth organisation with a mission to encourage social and economic participation of different CALD youths by developing their skills and socio-cultural competencies. I believe that if CALD youths meaningfully participate in Australia’s socio-economic life, they will be ableto integrate into Australian social, economic, and civil life and have the capacity to build community resilience.

I also founded South Eastern United Soccer Club (popularly known also as South Eastern Panthers) to give local youth a means of connecting positively and competing in local Football Victoria as well as Bayside League. The club now has representation from more than twenty-seven (27)different ethnic backgrounds, demonstrating our wonderful Municipality’s values.

As your Councillor I will advocate for better Council services for families, youth, seniors and all abilities;upgrades to facilities at our public spaces and parks;better access to resources for the CALD communities;more infrastructure upgrades including more parking; and support you against high density housing developments.‘Put Our Community First’ by VOTING 1 to AHMED SHUKRI.
